Caring for Your Handloom Pieces

To keep your fabrics soft, smooth, and comfortable for years to come, follow these essential care practices:

Washing

  • First Wash: Dry cleaning is highly recommended for the first wash to set the colors and preserve the intricate weft work.
  • Avoid harsh chemicals: Skip strong perfumes, starch, and heavy-duty detergents that can damage delicate fibers
  • Hand-wash or gentle machine wash: We recommend hand-washing to preserve the fabric's integrity. Alternatively, use a gentle machine cycle with cold water
  • Laundry Detergent: Use a very mild liquid detergent (or a baby shampoo).
  • Soaking: Do not soak the saree for more than 5 minutes. Gently swirl it in the water; do not bleach or scrub, wring or twist the fabric, as this can damage the hand-woven motifs.
  • Rest assured on shrinkage: All our products are pre-washed before shipment, so you won't experience unexpected shrinkage

Colour Care

  • Separate by colour: Since we use natural, azo-free dyes, wash dark and light-coloured garments separately to prevent colour transfer
  • Expect natural bleeding: Naturally dyed fabrics will bleed slightly during the first few washes—this is completely normal. Handle with extra care during early washes

Drying

  • Shade dry always: Both our eco-friendly dyes and natural fibers are best preserved by air-drying in shade rather than direct sunlight. This protects color vibrancy and extends the life of your garment
  • Tassel Care: Gently comb the tassels with your fingers after washing to keep them from tangling.

Ironing

  • Iron while damp: For best results, iron your garments while they're still slightly damp. This helps release wrinkles more easily and restores the fabric's natural crisp finish
  • Use low to medium heat: Avoid high temperatures that can damage delicate fibers or set stains permanently. Test on a hidden area first if unsure
  • Protect with a cloth barrier: For delicate fabrics, place a thin cotton cloth between the iron and garment to prevent direct heat contact
  • It is safer to iron on the reverse side of the garment to protect the raised weaving patterns.
  • Skip the starch: Avoid using starch or heavy sizing, as these chemicals can compromise the natural softness and breathability of handloom fabrics

Storage

Store in a cool, dry place. Avoid using Plastic covers; instead wrap the saree in a breathable muslin or cotton cloth bag given along with the productAvoid hanging for long periods; folding helps maintain the shape of the handloom weave.

Please note: These are general best practices for natural fiber garments. For specific care instructions tailored to your individual piece, always refer to the care label attached to your garment.
