Rannscape Weaves is not just a brand, it is a network of people - weavers, dyers, block-printers, farmers, and their families, whose knowledge, patience, and hands make every textile we sell possible. What you're holding is the result of a living craft tradition, carried forward by individuals who learned it the way it's always been learned: from someone who learned it before them.

The artisans we work with belong to weaving communities rooted in and around Bhujodi and the wider Kutch region, families for whom handloom weaving isn't a skill acquired, but one inherited, refined, and passed down across generations. In a region shaped by an unforgiving climate, craft has long been one of the few things Kutch could offer the world in abundance - intricate embroidery, resist-dye block printing, and a weaving tradition sophisticated enough to be recognised internationally, sustained by hands that rarely are.

We think of the people we work with as collaborators and co-creators, not makers executing a brief. Their expertise shapes what we produce as much as our design sensibility does.

From Fibre to Textile

Nothing begins at the loom. The distance between a raw fibre and a finished textile is longer, slower, and more skilled than most people realise.

Every Rannscape textile passes through a series of hands and processes, each shaping what comes next. The character of the finished cloth is determined long before it reaches the loom - in the fibre, the yarn, the preparation of the loom, and the rhythm of the artisan's hands.

Where the story begins.

Our textiles begin with Kala Cotton, an indigenous fibre deeply rooted in the landscape of Kutch. The cotton is hand-picked and cleaned of seed and debris before it can be spun. What follows is a careful process of carding and spinning, where the fibre is transformed into yarn. The character of the yarn matters. Its fineness, strength, and twist will ultimately influence how the finished textile feels, falls, and holds its form. From the field to the thread, nothing is rushed.

DIRECT RELATIONSHIPS

From loom to label: We work directly with our artisan partners, without layers of contractors standing between the maker and the brand.
This direct connection allows us to know who makes our textiles, understand their practice, and build relationships that extend beyond a single order.

FAIR COMPENSATION

Value the hand that makes: Fair compensation is fundamental to how we work. The value of a handwoven textile should reach the person whose time, knowledge, and skill created it.

LONG-TERM PARTNERSHIPS

Trust takes time: We return to the same weavers, dyers, and printers season after season. Continuity allows trust to grow in both directions, while giving skill the time and space to be recognised, respected, and rewarded.
We don't see artisans as suppliers. We see them as partners.

MADE TOGETHER

The artisan is part of the design: Our artisans are involved from the early stages of product development. They are not simply given a finished design to reproduce. Their knowledge, experience, and understanding of the material actively contribute to what we make.

LISTENING TO THE MATERIAL

Experience that cannot be written into a brief: A weaver who has spent decades working with a particular yarn knows how it will behave, how it responds to tension, how it falls, and how it changes through weaving. We listen to that knowledge.
Artisan feedback can influence our choice of fibres, yarns, techniques, and construction, allowing the final textile to emerge from both design and experience.

TRACEABLE BY ORIGIN

Know who made it: We believe traceability is a form of respect, not simply transparency.
Where possible, every Rannscape piece can be traced back to the artisan who made it, and often to the village where it was created.
